1.
ERGONOMICS
The dictionary defines ergonomics
as:
An
applied science concerned with designing and
arranging things people use so that the
people and things interact most efficiently
and safely.'
Increased
productivity means additional profit;
Well-managed companies are always looking
for ways to improve employees’ speed and
efficiency. With the addition of a SpaceArm
you will notice a dramatic increase in
productivity and overall performance due to
improved ergonomics.
Prevention
is the most important strategy for dealing
with work-related musculoskeletal problems.
It is necessary to support the office worker
with a comfortable and healthy posture while
positioning task related objects and
materials within optimum reach and focal
zones.

Most
people think of sitting as a resting
position. In most situations exactly the
opposite is true, as many of the seated
postures we assume exert considerably more
strain on the anatomy than standing.
By
recognizing which positions to avoid and
understanding the factors affecting our
postures, we have the possibility of
achieving continued seated comfort.
Proper
Seated Application
In
most sedentary task situations a dynamic
posture is the most ideal, as it not only
minimizes the anatomical strain of sitting,
but maximizes freedom of movement in the
waist—essential for healthy disk function
and muscular maintenance. In your station,
be sure that task equipment and materials
are positioned so as to not require a change
from your dynamic posture. This is perhaps
the most simple and beneficial exercise in
applied ergonomics for the seated worker.
Proper
Standing Application
Occasional
transition to a standing posture reduces the
strain and fatigue associated with sitting
for prolonged periods.
By
applying good ergonomic concepts, a company
removes barriers to productivity and safe
human performance by matching products,
tasks and environments to the office worker.
The
office worker is not forced to adapt to the
work environment; the environment adapts to
the office worker.
The
revolutionary new Optima 3000 keyboard
support system offers a high range of motion
to maximize user comfort and safety. The
OP30's simple, visual gauges for both height
and tilt make it effortless to fine tune
keyboard position for a personalized fit.
Optima
3500 keyboard support system simplifies your
choice of keyboard arms, because it works
just about anywhere and does just about
anything. Short return? Corner work surface?
No problem! The Optima OP35 pulls out far
enough to work in a corner, but still
retracts fully on a short 17 3/4" track.
Plus, it adjusts quickly and easily to
follow various postures for low risk
keyboard positions.
Sit to stand in under five seconds! Optima
5000 keyboard support systems unique design

If
your employees spend 10 percent or more of
their time on the telephone, using the right
telephone headset is a quick, cost-effective
way to increase productivity.
Using
the right telephone headset can improve
Productivity by up to 43%.
A
study by H.B. Maynard & Co., Inc. concluded
that adding hands-free headsets to office
phones improved
productivity by up to 43 percent.
Headsets are also known to reduce the
chances of work-related physical disorders,
specifically injuries of the neck and upper
body, and have resulted in reduced workers'
compensation costs.
According to a
Santa Clara Valley Medical Study,
headsets reduce neck, upper back, and
shoulder tension by as much as 41 percent.
Results from a recent study by E3 Consulting
showed that there was a statistically
significant
productivity increase of 23.5 percent
for the employees who used a telephone
headset over the ones who did not. In
addition, headset users who had reported
neck, upper back, or shoulder discomfort
during the pre-evaluation reported an
average
25-percent decrease in discomfort.
We
have more research to prove these claims of
increased productivity, but more importantly
a workplace assessment validates it and we
are willing to let you prove it to yourself
first hand at our risk. There’s no down side
and odds are 60 days from now your call
center should be operating 20-35% more
productive. Whether that means increased
sales, more client phone calls handled,
greater call resolution or increased
capacity. The bottom line is Increased
Productivity.
2.
SPACE

Specifiers
and designers continue to seek an effective
solution to the amount of space required for
the office workstation. While designers have
played with shapes, finishes, and other
details, fundamental changes to the
footprint of the workstation have been
driven by technological developments.
The
depth of the CRT monitor and keyboard width
have made it virtually impossible for
designers to reduce the size of the work
station footprint without sacrificing
storage or leg space. That is, without
Pelican Drawers.
By
turning wasted space under the desk into
functional storage space with Pelican
Drawers, we can eliminate the need for
pedestals. In so doing,
SpaceCo is able
to reduce the workstation footprint size by
1 ft. in each direction or by 13 square
feet, while increasing leg space.
By
serving as visitor seating as well providing
storage, the MoPed convertible top, box and
file drawer mobile pedestal is an excellent
solution for limited space work stations.
Just as the extensive depth of the CRT
computer monitor prompted the development of
the "corner top"; resulting in a giant work
station footprint, the low profile of the
LCD flat screen monitor eliminates the need
for the “corner top”; the last obstacle to
designing a more compact and efficient
workstation.
3.
Storage
Large
amounts of capitol are invested in
facilities, but facilities do not produce
anything. Therefore, companies need to take
advantage of vertical space in order to
minimize leased space. Most workstations do
not take advantage of available vertical
space. Companies can recover floor space for
new uses by utilizing vertical storage and
optimizing available space.
Pelican
drawers use otherwise wasted
space under the work-surface to provide
convenient storage for purses, files, laptop
computers and other personal and work
related items. Optional locking lids provide
a second-level of security for the contents
of the storage bins of Pelican I and Pelican
II drawers.
Space Trays
store and organize your active files out of
the way, not out of sight. Space Trays free
workspace by getting active files off your
desktop and placing them within easy view
and reach.
MoPeds
can serve as visitor seating as well as
provide storage; this box and file drawer
mobile pedestal is an excellent solution for
limited space work stations.
4.
SECURITY
One
of the largest IT-related problems today is
data security. This issue must be considered
as related to workstations if businesses are
to realize the cost savings they desire.

Pelican Drawers offer
security from purse and laptop theft by
providing discreet storage bins for laptops.
Optional
locking lids provide a second-level of
security for the contents of the storage
bins of Pelican I and Pelican II drawers; an
optional laptop lock for Pelican III
provides protection against opportunity
theft.
Pelican
II drawers enable you to lock your keyboard
to prevent unauthorized access to computer
files.
Compromised
security from missing keys is avoided with
Pelican drawer key-core replaceable locks.
Security
screws can be specified on the
SpaceArm
to prevent the removal of flat screen
monitors.
5.
TECHNOLOGY
The
Laptop keyboard positioned at the proper
height and distance, the screen will be too
low and too close; if the screen is in the
proper position, the keyboard is too high
and too far away. Invariably, the laptop
user is forced into unhealthy postures,
straining to reach the keyboard and see the
screen. This is due to the fact that posture
is dictated by the position of task related
objects and materials.
It
is necessary to support the laptop user in a
comfortable and healthy posture while
positioning task related objects and
materials within optimum reach and focal
zones. Pelican III laptop drawers position
the laptop keypad at the recommended height
which allows the upper arms to rest at the
sides when keying, while a soft molded palm
rest supports the wrists in a neutral
posture. Pelican drawers are dimensioned to
provide easy user access to laptop ports for
cable connections and disk exchange. The
retractable mouse tray is aligned with the
keypad to provide a natural transition
between functions.
The
Laptop platform and SpaceArm enables easy
docking and optimal positioning of the
laptop monitor. Pelican II keyboard drawers
position the laptop keypad at the
recommended height which allows the upper
arms to rest at the sides when keying, while
a soft molded palm rest supports the wrists
in a neutral posture.
6.
ORGANIZATION
The
tools the office worker uses should be
within arms reach – the workspace adapting
to the office worker, not the worker
adapting to the workspace. This creates an
environment that encourages productivity.
Space
Trays store and organize your active files
out of the way, not out of sight. Space
Trays free workspace by getting active files
off your desktop and placing them facing the
worker and within easy view and reach.
MoPeds
can serve as visitor seating as well as
provide storage; this box and file drawer
mobile pedestal is an excellent solution for
workstations with limited space.
The office worker can pull it close to them
for easy daily filing with the built in
handle and push it under the desk surface
out of the way when finished.

Pelican
drawers use otherwise wasted space under the
work-surface to provide convenient storage
for purses, files, laptop computers and
other personal and work related items. The
bin keeps items in arms reach, while
discreetly hiding them under the work
surface so they are out of the work area.
